Analysis of Famous Apps : Telegram

Telegram is a cloud-based mobile and desktop messaging app with a focus on security and speed. It is built by Durov brothers who built Russia’s largest social network VKontakte – also known as VK.

It is a very popular social messaging app which allows user to do real time chat with text, image, audio, location, file & video sharing with other users.

The App has a major focus on Speed and Security. Telegram seamlessly syncs across all devices and can be used on desktops, tablets and phones alike. You can send an unlimited amount of messages, photos, videos and files of any type (.doc, .zip, .pdf, etc.). Telegram groups can now have up to 5000 members in supergroups and you can create channels to broadcast messages to an unlimited number of subscribers.

It has the features of both Whatsapp and Snapchat. It has green double checkmarks to indicate the message has been read. You can see if the person you want to communicate with is online or not. It has features like Secret chat -the messages which self destruct after sometime and leave no trace on the servers.

“Telegram is the fastest and most secure mass market messaging system in the world,” claims the company. It is because Telegram is based on Nikolai Durov’s open-sourced MTProto protocol. MTProto protocol is built upon time-tested algorithms to make security compatible with high speed delivery and reliability on weak connections. “The no. 1 reason for me to support and help launch Telegram was to build a means of communication that can’t be accessed by the Russian security agencies,” Durov told TechCrunch.

You can use Telegram in three ways. Private chats, group chats and channel broadcasts. Chats are private, encrypted messages. Groups are private larger discussions available for as many as 5000 users now, while channels are public broadcasts.

One much loved feature for people who are very much concerned about security it its Secret Chat. Secret Chat messages can be programmed to self-destruct automatically from both participating devices. The Snapchat-esque self destructing timers can be set on messages by users. The timers range from two seconds to one week. This way you can send all types of content — messages, photos, videos and even files that can disappear when you want. Secret Chats use end-to-end encryption to ensure that a message can only be read by its intended recipient. It has free picture stickers that can be used by all the users.

Telegram is developing as a very important messaging platform in this era of chatbots. It allows developers to build Telegram client of their own. It has invited third party developers onto its platform.

Telegram Group Member Limit is 5000. The groups with 5000 members are called “Super Groups”. Following a ban of WhatsApp in Brazil in December 2015, Telegram saw 1.5m+ users download its app.

The app is constantly developing. The developers are coming up with something new and something innovative every now and then.  True to their tag line they are creating a “New Era of Messaging”.
