On day three of 12 AI updates, OpenAI released its advanced video generation model – Sora, which offers much more than what meets the eye. It is thoughtfully designed and comes with advanced features like text-to-video generation, animation, video-to-video functionalities, and more.
Initially previewed in February as Sora, the model was rigorously tested and polished and is now released as Sora Turbo in December. Sora is a highly advanced video generator that can adeptly generate premium-quality videos from textual prompts and enhance a video by merging two videos together. One of the most compelling aspects of Sora is that it can adeptly handle complex prompts with multiple sentences to generate accurate videos in response.
It allows users to generate videos with 420p to 720p (up to 1080p) resolutions lasting 5 – 20 seconds. Sora generates captivating videos and offers multiple styles to choose from, which adds to the overall value of this update.

The production team behind Sora delivered many fascinating functionalities with this launch. Understand them one by one here:
- A New Interface: The model came with a new interface that simplifies prompts via any media format, including text, videos, and images.
- Extensive Customization: Sora allows extensive customization, from input media to output variation and duration. It also lets users customize aspect ratio, resolution, and style.
- Storyboarding: This feature allows users to select their preferred input for every frame, further simplifying the prompt. Users can add extensive detailing for Sora to accommodate or use simple prompts for the model to add to it.
- Video Editing: Users can also remix the video by adding a customization prompt or create a seamless transition by “blending” the two videos together.
Subscriptions and More!
Currently, Sora is available only with OpenAI Plus and OpenAI Pro. However, with the Plus plan, Sora allows only 50 video generation at 480p per month or a reduced number of videos at 720p.
With pro, offers it 10X more usage, i.e., more video generation with high resolution and longer duration. Currently, Sora is only available with these two subscription plans at no additional cost.
What to Expect in the Future?
OpenAI has thoughtfully approached the Sora development and is still enhancing it further. The team is open to user feedback and is looking forward to the video content generated by the users.
They designed Sora with three major principles in mind:

Currently, Sora has been launched in the USA and other international countries except for most of Europe and the UK. The team is working on expanding it there and launching tailored pricing for different users to make Sora accessible to a wider audience by next year.
