In a significant move, China’s Baidu has launched two advanced AI models, one of which is a reasoning model, to give tough competition to the newly released models, such as Manus AI and DeepSeek’s AI.
Baidu also stated that its AI models offer excellent performance compared to the industry-leading models, which include OpenAI’s ChatGPT 4.5 version in benchmarks. Moreover, the model is available at a fraction of the cost and is there to change the face of the AI industry.
ERNIE X1 is the newest AI model that delivers performance on par with DeepSeek R1 at only half the price, stated Baidu. Further, Baidu added that X1 has solid understanding, planning, reflection, and evolution capabilities and uses the tools autonomously.
ERNIE 4.5 is the most recent version of the foundational model, and it comes with incredible understanding ability. It has highly advanced language ability, and its understanding, generation, logic, and memory abilities are extensively enhanced.
This model even has high emotional intelligence and can analyze memes and cartoons. Both models can process and integrate different data types, such as text, video, images, and audio, and convert the content across various formats.
Baidu, the latest search engine in China, has the advantage of effectively introducing AI into its services. The company focuses on inculcating these models into the Baidu Search, thus offering users “unmatched contextual awareness.” This latest integration aims to take user experience to a new level.
As of now, Baidu faces fierce competition from US-based giants like OpenAI and Google DeepMind. The company is going to make these AI models open-source on June 30, 2025, thus allowing developers worldwide to innovate using them.
As AI continues to evolve, Baidu will assert itself as an emerging player in the space and challenge competitors to consider new ways to thrive in artificial intelligence.
