While Gemini was a major highlight, it was just the beginning of a wide range of innovations unveiled at I/O 2025.
What’s New with Gemini and AI?
- Gemini Ultra Subscription
Google launched Gemini Ultra, a premium AI service available in the U.S. for $249.99 per month. Subscribers get exclusive access to advanced AI tools like Veo 3, an AI video generator, Flow, an AI video editing app, and the upcoming Deep Think mode for enhanced reasoning. It also includes 30TB storage, YouTube Premium, and AI features integrated across Google apps.
- Deep Think Mode
Deep Think is an enhanced reasoning mode available in Gemini 2.5 Pro that allows the AI to evaluate multiple answers before delivering a response. This feature improves accuracy and decision-making for complex queries. Currently in beta for trusted testers, Google plans to expand it after thorough safety evaluations.
- Generative Media Models
Google introduced two powerful generative media models, expanding its AI capabilities beyond text. These tools highlight the growing role of AI in producing rich, dynamic visual experiences.
- Veo 3: Veo 3 is Google’s next-generation AI video generator. It can produce high-quality videos with synchronized audio, including sound effects, background noise, and dialogue. Available to Gemini Ultra subscribers, Veo 3 empowers creators to generate rich multimedia content from text or image prompts.
- Imagen 4: Imagen 4 is a powerful AI image generator that creates photorealistic and abstract images up to 2K resolution. It is significantly faster than its predecessor and is integrated into Flow, Google’s AI video editing tool, enabling filmmakers and creators to produce detailed visuals quickly and efficiently.
Key Enhancements to the Gemini App and AI Features
- The Gemini app now serves over 400 million monthly active users.
- New Gemini Live features include live camera and screen sharing for real-time verbal conversations, powered by Project Astra.
- Gemini Live will soon integrate with Google Maps, Calendar, and Tasks for seamless assistance with directions, event creation, and to-do lists.
New AI Tools for Developers and Users
With Gemini laying the foundation, Google also introduced practical tools designed to bring AI closer to both developers and everyday users.
- Project Mariner
Project Mariner is an AI agent capable of autonomously browsing websites and completing tasks like purchasing tickets or groceries via chat. It supports multitasking and learns user preferences through “teach and repeat.” It is currently in trusted tester beta via the Gemini API; pricing details are pending.
- Stitch
Stitch helps developers and designers rapidly build web and mobile app front ends by generating UI components and corresponding HTML/CSS code from simple text or image prompts. It offers customization options but remains in early access, with pricing and broader release expected soon.
- Android Studio AI Features
Android Studio now includes AI-powered “Journeys” and “Agent Mode,” which assist developers with bug fixes, crash insights, and code optimizations. Powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro, these tools analyze app code deeply to suggest improvements, accelerating development and enhancing app quality. Android Studio is free to use.
Project Astra
Project Astra is Google’s low-latency, multimodal AI platform that enables real-time interactive experiences across devices. It powers Gemini Live’s camera and screen-sharing features, facilitating smooth, natural conversations with AI. Project Astra integrates with apps like Google Maps and Calendar, playing a central role in Google’s vision for ubiquitous AI assistance.
Personalized AI Experience
Google introduced personalized Smart Replies in Gmail that tailor email suggestions based on users’ writing styles and past conversations. This personal context will expand across Search, Gemini, and Workspace apps, offering more relevant and natural AI interactions while maintaining privacy and control.
AI in Search and Workspace
- Google Search now features AI Mode, enabling complex multi-part queries with advanced reasoning, available in the U.S.
- Workspace apps such as Gmail, Docs, and Vids are getting smarter AI tools for composing messages, editing content, and managing inboxes.
Immersive Video Calls with Google Beam
Google Beam, formerly Project Starline, uses advanced AI and multiple cameras to create a realistic 3D video conferencing experience with millimeter-level head tracking and real-time speech translation. It enables deeply immersive and natural virtual meetings, with initial devices releasing later this year.
Wear OS 6 and Developer Tools
- Wear OS 6
Wear OS 6 offers a unified font style and dynamic theming that syncs app colors with watch faces, delivering a cleaner and more personalized user experience. Developers get new design guidelines and Figma files, making it easier to create customizable and smooth apps for Pixel Watches and other Wear OS devices.
- Google Play Updates
Google Play enhances developer tools with improved subscription management, supporting multi-product checkouts, topic browsing pages for easier content discovery, and a smoother checkout process for add-ons. These features boost user engagement and developer control and are currently available at no extra cost.
- Android Studio AI Integration
Android Studio’s new AI features, including “Journeys” and “Agent Mode,” help developers fix bugs, analyze crashes, and optimize code using Gemini AI. These tools streamline app development and improve overall quality assurance without additional fees.
The Future of AI After Google I/O 2025
Google I/O 2025 made it clear that AI is no longer a futuristic concept; it’s a present-day force reshaping how we interact with technology. From simplifying tasks to boosting creativity and productivity, AI is becoming a seamless part of daily experiences for users, developers, and businesses.
